Social Networks You Can’t Live Without - Micro Blogging Social Networking Sites Mini Review

Don't forget to subscribe to iwebis RSS feed. You can also Subscribe to iwebis by Email Thanks for visiting!

Ok, maybe you can live without these social networks but I thought the title would be more exciting with ‘can’t live without” in it ;) .

Before I begin this review I want to explain how I define social networking. With all the various titles going around it can become frustrating and confusing. Social media, micro blogging and social bookmarking are all related to social networking if you ask me. If a website allows you to network with others, I see it as a social network. Networking already involves socializing whether it is for business or friendship. Even though a website forum may not but the hip Web 2.0 social network, I still consider it a social network. Forums don’t offer as much as Myspace but do still serve the same purpose, which is creating space for people to network.

Whether you agree with me or not on how social network should be defined you can’t deny sites like Twitter and Pounce are not growing in popularity. Today I am going to offer my thoughts on four social micro blogging networks. Don’t forget to follow my Queen of Social Network Marketing project for more updates.

Twitter

twitter.pngWhen I first heard of Twitter I thought it would be a fad that would soon fade away. I just couldn’t understand how it could be useful to people. I also thought it encouraged a one sided conversation. With a question like “What are you doing?”, it just didn’t seem like it would offer much two way discussion. Well, I was wrong. Twitter has proved to be a great way to inform, be informed and to network. Continue Reading

Blog Targeting Social Networking Sites Review - Social Network Marketing

I am going to begin the social network review with the most useful blog targeting social networks that I have found so far. I am part of a number networks but not all are useful for marketing. What I usually look for in a network is the option for finding friends/contacts, sending friends/contacts messages and the option to create groups/communities and send messages within those groups/communities.

I have always felt that BlogCatalog was on of the most useful social networks for bloggers. After I first discovered BlogCatalog I decided to help promoted the Mass Buzz Experiment. When comparing MyBlogLog and BlogCatalog, I still think BlogCatalog is more useful. I have listed the reasons why I like to use BlogCatalog.

  1. It’s easy to friend people.
  2. You can send all your friends a shout out.
  3. It’s easy to join communities.
  4. You can create groups.
  5. You can opt to have group members sent email messages when you create a post in your group.
  6. You can place a most recent visitor widget on your blog.
  7. You can add a News Feed Widget on your blog.
  8. You can join in on the BlogCatalog Discussions.
  9. You can add your blog and Twitter feeds (other feeds coming soon).
  10. The staff of BlogCatalog are accessible through the Discussion page and Twitter.

So far I have created two groups on BlogCatalog, Women Bloggers and Becoming a ProBlogger. The Women Bloggers group grew fairly quickly and current has 289 members. The great part about this group is that if need be I can send all my group members a message. This mass messaging option has been very helpful to the HerProBlog.COM project. The members can opt out of receiving emails responders if they wish but I am careful not to abuse this privilege to avoid opt outs. Continue Reading

Queen of Social Network Marketing Project Update

It’s interesting how you recognize progress when you are working towards a goal. I don’t think I would have been aware of progress if I hadn’t started this project. Recognizing progress is an important reason to set goals. This week I will be reporting some of the progress made through the Queen of Social Network Marketing project.

I want you to understand a few things before I continue. As I stated at the start of this project, earning the Queen of Social Network Marketing title is going to take time. I am not offering an overnight success story. It’s a series of seemingly insignificant events that over time will hopefully earn a respect as a quality content contributor.

What are the ’seemingly insignificant events’ ? Joining in on conversations, contributing quality content and contributing interactive content, to name a few. The idea behind this project is not to discover anything that has not already been discovered. For the most part people enjoy networking and communicating with other people that share their same interests. So essentially all I am doing is communicating with others. In return I will hopefully gain followers.

Updates to Come - Queen of Social Network Marketing and Website Makeover Project

As you may have already guessed, I have been really busy working on the HerProBlog.COM project. Things are coming along very nicely but because I have spent more time working on that project I have less time to write on this blog. My kids are on spring break this week so I thought I would get caught up on some other project updates.

It’s been a while since I have posted about the Queen of Social Network Marketing project but I have been working on it. Since I decided to actively be apart of Twitter my subscriber count has gone up by about 30 new subscribers. I will report more this week.

The Website Makeover Project has been a bit slow going but we are making progress. I will also be writing more about this project this week.

ProBlogHer.COM is now HerProBlog.COM

groupsq22.jpgAfter a lot of thinking and long discussions with my husband, I finally chose a name for the site. Even though HerProBlog.COM is not all that different from ProBlogHer.COM it was still difficult to decide whether that was the best name. There were a lot of names I came up with but none of them seemed to offer what ProBlogHer.COM did. ProBlogHer was a play on words because it sounded similar to Problogger. It also offered the “Her” to suggest it was for women.

HerProBlog.COM does offer the somewhat of the same feel as ProBlogHer.COM. Now instead of the name referring to an individual professional women blogger, it now refers to a women blogger’s professional blog. The name will still offers the same words just in different order. I use the dot com because it will make it easier for people to remember.

The site is still under construction but I am working hard on getting the site ready for launch. I brought on another great mind to be apart of HerProBlog.COM. To keep you on your toes, I will announce her name on a later date ;)

A New Name has been Chosen to Replace ProBlogHer.COM

I finally decided on a new name for the ProBlogHer.COM project. I don’t want to give it away just yet but I just thought I would post this news in case anyone is interested.

It took me a few days of thinking and brainstorming with my husband to decide on a name. It’s not as catchy as ProBlogHer.COM but it will just have to due because I am sick of thinking about it. More details coming soon!
