#3 - Don’t underestimate the power of social networking
Social networking can work for you if you approach it the right way. As you probably already know I am attempting to earn the title “Queen of Social Network Marketing“. There reason I decided to try and earn this title in the first place was because I became aware of the traffic that could be gained by networking if done correctly. There is definitely a right and wrong way to market your self and/or blog through social networking. My goal is to use the right techniques for networking to gain authority and personal branding.
Most of iwebis initial traffic was gained through a social network. BlogCatalog helped bring 1,000 hits to this blog on one day within the first week of it’s launch. Digg, has also been able to bring many sites an enormous amount of traffic as well (though it may be that unless a top digg user promotes you, your not likely to be one of those lucky few). Many people have not yet recognized the power in social networking, which means there is a whole marketing strategy has not been fully unexplored.
As I said before there is a right and a wrong way to use social networking as a marketing strategy. If you are interested in following the Queen of Social Network Marketing project feel free to subscribe to this blog.

Hmm I would also say don’t overestimate the power of social networking. If you have good content and do other necessary things social networking can help. But the hype around social networking overall I think is far too extreme. Taking advantage of social networking strategies is a way to increase traffic - if you have content people are excited about. Without that it does little.

Hi John,
Thanks for commenting. I think many people view social networking the way you do. I also think that many people have not used social networking to it’s fullest or with any sort of strategy. It is true there is a lot of hype surrounding social networks but I have only seen a few people that are actually tapping into it’s usefulness in marketing. I do agree with you about content though. Even if you are successful at building traffic through social networks, people won’t come back unless they find rich content.
My hope is that I will be able show people what I mean by “don’t underestimate the power of social networking”, through the Queen of Social Network Marketing project. I believe that social networks are very useful tool for branding and my hope is to demonstrate that through this project.
Thanks again for stopping by!
