Joost - Free Internet TV - Cool But Somewhat Of A Disappointment

Joost™ the best of tv and the internet Last I had checked, Joost was only available by invitation and TechCruch had special invites available if you knew where to find them. I did find the invite page and went as far as receiving my invite email and after that I don’t know what happen. I must have misplaced the idea of Joost in my brain because I didn’t think of it again until I found Hulu recently ( I will write about Hulu soon).

Now that I have used Joost for a few days I have to say it is really cool. Joost offers a free software download that allows you to watch television shows while chatting with friends as well as blog. Joost truly embodies the term social media. What I like about my experience so far is that it is easy to use. I can search television shows while a show is running. I haven’t used the chatting or blogging feature yet but the idea of it sounds fun. I also like the fact that you can enlarge to a full screen and that you can personalize your account with My Joost.

The disappointment came when I finally found shows that interest me and they were only a few minute long clips. Not all shows are just clips but it was disappointing to find any. I am trying to figure out why a network would only release just clips and the only thing I can think of is that they want to you try and become hooked to the show. Or possibly they are testing the system before releasing whole episodes. I also found that a lot of the shows were very dated. This has to do with the networks that are available on Joost but I still found that a little disappointing. I am assuming as this company grows more full episodes will be available for viewing.

I tried Joost a while back, but it didn’t really interest me because most episodes were replays from regular tv that I had already seen. I haven’t looked into the social features yet. I’m waiting for an invite from Hulu also so I can do a review, but they seem to be pretty backed up. From the comments that were left on their official blog, a lot of members were unsatisfied with their features (or lack thereof).

jblu, I just discovered yesterday that the network stations websites allow you to view full episodes also. So other than the fact that you can chat with your friends while watching tv Joost is not nearly as cool as I thought it was before. Thanks for stopping by.
