Orkut - Queen of Social Networking- Internet Branding Project

Orkut is one of those networks I heard about a long time ago but just didn’t feel like joining. I think it might have to do with the silly name that Google decided to call it. Not that Friendster or Myspace are any better mind you.

So yesterday I decided to check out Orkut and see if it was worth joining. I wasn’t really that impressed with it but did find some things that could be useful. I generally like networks that allow you to join and create groups by topic. Orkut allows you to do this plus each group has a forum and create events.

From a marketing stand point I really do  like the fact that you create groups. So even though I just joined and have no friends I created a Women Bloggers community. The Women Bloggers community will hopefully be a community that useful to women bloggers (as well as men bloggers). I also started a Women Bloggers community on Bumpzee.

So far day one of becoming the Queen of social networking - Internet Branding Project is going very well. Till the next time.

I also have an account at Orkut … though I must admit, I find it difficult enough to keep up with MySpace, and therefore I haven’t been actively involved with Orkut! I think Orkut is more popular in Asia … Anyway, the fact that it is owned by Google lends some credibility to this social networking site, which probably isn’t going away anytime soon, even if it isn’t likely to ever be a viable threat to MySpace or any of the other popular social networking sites!

Hi Mona, thank you for this informative article. If I’m not wrong, you just join the “Social Networking Blogger” community on Orkut.

Hey Ben, thanks for stopping by to comment again. I think I am going to stick with networks more like Orkut than MySpace. I don’t think joining “friend” type sites will benefit me that much in this branding project.

@Social Networking - Yes I did join your community. I will be visiting the community and contribute soon. Thanks for stopping by ;)
