I have been really trying hard to understand all the excitement around Twitter. I created an account and twittered here and there but I really don’t think I get it. I am not sure why people are so excited about it. The idea behind Twitter is answering the question “What are you doing now?”. So members text in from their mobile phone or computer short messages about what they are doing. Ok, I get all that and for some reason I am always tempted to write about what I am doing as uninteresting as it may be, any time I come close to that site. But my question is, why does it matter?
Why does it matter that people know what I am doing right now? Do people really care about what I am doing right now? Is Twitter really an effective form of networking or is it more of a self centered conversation with ones self. I know members can reply to other members but it’s really not that easy to follow. So again I ask, what is the point? It could be that people just can’t get enough of talking about themselves and think other people are interested in them as well. It could be that Twitter is intended to become an addiction and eventually we will all need to go to Twitters Annoymous.
There is something to be said about networking in the right places. If your purpose for twittering is to network I am not sure it’s the right place. However it can be a fun place to let people know what you are eating for breakfast. It may be that I have just not mastered Twitter and don’t understand the true value. Or it could be that everyone else is thinking the same things as I am, ” Twitter – I Don’t Think I Get It “.
So now I am going to go and twitter that I wrote about Twitter on my blog – sickening it’s it
.

Does anyone understand social media at all?
I don’t get it either … I too have a Twitter account (and I even have people who are “following” me) but I’m not quite sure what the value is.
Count me in as one who doesn’t get it! The only
purpose I can see for it is to let others know
you’ve updated your blog! Or to send secret
codes? Or to flirt? Or you’re so bored, you
twitter?
Do not know why but your blog will not let me post any punctuation marks so cannot post my blog address or use words like dont with the apostrophe.
I also think Twitter must be for people who are bored with life. Much better to read blogs or communicate via forums or directories like MyBlogLog. I dont care to know what others are doing or want to tell them what I am doing.
I guess I am not the only that doesn’t understand the purpose of Twitter.
@ Jeremy – There are some social networks that can actually connect you with the right people for the right purpose, Twitter is just not one that really has an true purpose. At least that’s what I think.
@Jackie, I am not sure why you couldn’t include certain punctuation marks. I will have to see if I can find out why. Thanks for commenting.
I don’t get it either but I’m adding you to follow in case you figure it out..lol
