As I have mentioned before I am getting ready to create a social network community for two of my blogs. A lot of thought is going into this new venture. Since I am on a very tight budget I needed to find a free social networking site that allows multiple user options for my community members. From what I have found there are only two ‘create your own’ social networking sites that are worth using- Ning and KickApps.
Creating your own social networking community is becoming easier and easier. When comparing Ning and KickApps there are some differences that I think are important to evaluate. Both of these network hosts offer features that are similar. They both have options for allowing users to upload video, photos, blogs, forums and create and join groups but the look and feel of the sites are very different.
Trying to decided which one of these platforms to choose was fairly easy. You have heard me stress the importance of a good web design a number of times I am sure. It’s not that Ning has a bad layout but the basic layout of KickApps looks a lot like YouTube. Since much of the world is more familiar with sites like YouTube and MySpace I think it would be beneficial for me to go with KickApps.
KickApps also allows users to grab the embedding code for videos as well as rate them. Though Ning is a very good social networking community I think that KickApps is keeping up with the current look and feel of social networking communities. Now that I have chosen a social networking community platform I can now create the communities. I will keep you posted on this new venture of mine.
