I stumbled across Voki the other day and thought “How cool is that!”. It may not exactly be something a business professional would be interested in but it seems a fun way to network with other people. Not only can you network with other people from all over the world, the avatar also talks!

Your voki/avatar can go with you just about anywhere. After creating your voki/avatar you can use the code to place in on your website, blog, MySpace, email and even mobile phones. Your avatar also follows the cursor so when people visit your site they will either be creeped out or obsessed with making the eyes move. Your avatar is automatically placed in the directory where members and visitors can browse and find out more information about you. Other members can leave you comments or contact you through the information you allow to be published. You can also include your MySpace and blog address.

Your avatar can be one of many choices they offer. Create your avatar to look just like you or nothing like you. There are a number of different characters you can choose from. You can also record your own voice or use a prerecorded voice and offer an audio message for visitors to listen to.

Now I know there are other sites that offer avatars similar to these but what I really liked about Voki is that you can take your avatar with you. I chose to make my avatar look somewhat like me and use my favorite background - Horses!. Did I mention this is all free to non-commercial users? Voki is in Alpha but seems to offer a lot of good stuff and was easy to use. Visit Voki’s blog for up-to-date info.

This is a cool concept but I don’t think that this will one day replaces human contact.
Better talking to a human by video call or by phone.

Armand, I agree with you on that. Human contact is better but I do think these avatars are fun.

Lol, these voices are so funny. I also don’t think they’ll replace human contact, but I’m sure that one day they’ll be supplementing it in a great way.
