I think I probably harp on blog design way to much but I do think the right blog design and layout will not only make your readers feel more comfortable but will also make you feel more comfortable.
Now unless you are a natural neat-freak you should be able to relate to the following comparison between keeping a tidy house and keeping a tidy blog. How do you feel when someone comes to your house unannounced and you are frantically picking up dirty clothes, papers and dishes as you pretend like you are happy to see the surprise visitor? Not too many people feel comfortable in this type of situation. For the visitor, they may be more embarrassed by your embarrassment then the mess itself, making an all around uncomfortable situation. Though the messiness of a blog is not quite the same as a messy house, your blog is still a space that people are visiting. You have been allotted a small piece of the net and your space can either be a pleasant experience for your visitor or an embarrassing, uncomfortable situation.
Here are few quick tips on tidying up your blog space.
- Use a clean, easy to navigate theme.
- Give your blog some space. Don’t over crowd your blog with ads and banners, links and pictures that are necessary for the success of your blog.
- Make sure that navigation links are easy to find.
- Think about how a first time visitor would view your blog.
- Clean up from time to time. It’s just always a good idea to keep it clean so it may be necessary to keep the mess from coming back.
