homesweet.jpgBlogging about your interests may not be as easy as it sounds. If your goal is to one day make money with your blog then you need to take a few things into account. If you have an interest that very few people share then the likelihood of gaining enough traffic to make any money are slim. However, if you are willing to be in it for the long haul you could establish yourself as an authority within that interest/niche. It’s a good idea to do a Google search for the niche your are interested to see what comes up. It’s also a good idea research your niche in general before deciding to create a blog.

I purposely did not say blog your hobbies because interests can include more things. You can be interested in skydiving for instance but it maybe that you have never actually been skydiving. You can become educated in the skydiving sport but it’s not actually a hobby. Of course it would be best if you actually did what you blog about but I don’t think it is a necessity. Blogging your interest can be more related to your everyday life. Your profession, Sunday school teacher, homeschooling, reading novels, soccer mom/dad and your pets would all be considered interests.

I believe that most people who are just focussed on the potential income from a blog are missing an opportunity to share their interests with others as well as contributing valuable information to the blogosphere. There are of course those that are quite successful at blogging topics that they have no interest in at all. However I think that you are more likely to become a successful niche blogger if you actually have an interest in the niche you are blogging about.

So, if you are want to establish yourself as an authority blogger then blog about things you are interested in or are willing to invest time in learning about. Take it from me, blogger your interest is a great outlet.
