Transactional Web 2.0 Banners - Ad Campaigns Are Evolving

My Google Meme sent me an interesting link to a TechCrunch article the other day. The article was interesting because it featured a company that takes a different approach to ad campaigning.

Tailgate offers advertisers transactional banner ads in which customers can buy items from the ad itself. Instead of customers being directed a landing page that gives more information about the products for sale the customer is prompted to add items to cart. When finished selecting items the customer is then directed to enter credit card information and complete the purchase.

I have a strong feeling that this type of advertising will do very well. In a world of impatiently waiting for 30 second coffee to heat up in the microwave (I catch myself doing this a lot) people are sure to catch on to a faster way of purchase transactions. I am sure the level of impulse buys will also increase with this type of ad campaign.

The Tailgate website also offers a demonstration of these ads.

In their own words.

Tailgate provides customers with a quick, easy and secure way for your customers to transact with you completely within the Tailgate tranner, so:

  • Working in complete partnership with the content on the hosting site, not against it
  • Making it easy for your customers to buy a product or service from you.
  • Enabling quick, impulse-driven purchases
  • Significantly reducing barriers to purchase
  • Providing a simple solution for targeting customers to promote increased uptake of offers and deals.
  • Benefiting from hosting site’s PPC and SEO activities.
  • Improving acquisitions and reducing CPA

What’s more, Tailgate is easily updatable and works with existing ad serving technology so will extend your existing investments in media buying and rich-media executions.
