I just discovered BlogTalkRadio and I think this could be an excellent blogging tool. You can be the host of your own radio show! It is becoming easier and easier to get your voice heard and in this case you are literally getting your voice heard. BlogTalkRadio offers an excellent faq page so I decided to include some of the answers to questions I had.
What is BlogTalkRadio?
BlogTalkRadio is a platform that extends the blog, allowing any individual to host a live blogshow online. Our service is free to all users, whether you host a blogshow or listen in. Plus hosts earn half of all revenue generated by their blogshow and Host Channel page.
Who would qualify as a host?
Any individual, anywhere, as long as you have an Internet connection, any kind of phone, and something to say! We welcome hosts who have passions and interests they want to share, opinions and information they wish to disseminate. Whether your audience is 10 or 10,000 people, we have a place for you here at BlogTalkRadio, and we’ll even help teach you how to expand that audience.
How can I call in live and speak with a host?
BlogTalkRadio is committed to the two-way conversation and connects you with show hosts and their guests in several ways.
First, you can call the host during the the show’s live broadcast using any phone, whether it be a landline, mobile, VOIP, soft phone, etc. To reach the host by phone, dial the phone number that appears on the Programming Guide or on their Host Channel page. You will automatically be placed into a queue where you are visible on the host switchboard. When the host takes your call, you will be live on the air and audible to his or her audience. However, you can and may be muted at the host’s discretion.
Secondly, while the show is live, a “Click to Talk” button will appear on the Host Channel page. With a microphone or headset connected to your computer, clicking this button will also place you in the call-in queue using BlogTalkRadio’s VoIP technology, just as making a phone call would. When you click the “Click to Talk” button, a connection window will pop up and you will be asked to type your name so that the host may identify you on his or her switchboard.
Finally, the Host Channel may also include an instant messenger screen name so that you can reach the show or host for a live chat. or on their Host Channel page.
Where do I get my call in phone number?
As a host, we will provide you with your own dedicated phone number. We will also assign a separate phone number for your callers, which will appear on your host channel page. We provide these numbers free of charge. When you are ready to host your blogshow, you simply call in, dial your host pin (which is automatically generated when you sign up) and begin talking.
Your listeners who wish to call in and comment will dial the listener call in phone number and be placed into a queue from which you will be able to activate, mute, and delete callers.
How do I promote my show?
Promote your show by placing one of our snazzy BlogTalkRadio buttons
on your existing blog or website. It will hyperlink back to your individual Host Channel page. You can also promote your show by e-mailing invites to friends and colleagues. You can access both of these promotional tools through your Host Dashboard by clicking on the tab, “Promotion.”
We also help you promote your blogshow with our BTR Blog and other resources, such as our Top Rankings Promotion Guide. If you have specific questions about marketing your blogshow, please contact our Promotion Specialist, Jaime Mintun, at jaimemintun@blogtalkradio.com.
Promote your show and we may just decide to promote you ourselves on our home page, Programming Guide, and through other marketing channels.
Does it cost any money to be a host?
No, in fact you can get paid to host your blogshow! As our hosts expand their audiences and attract more listeners, BlogTalkRadio will share our advertising revenues with our hosts. You can learn more about this at our Get Paid page.
So there you have it. Another way to get your voice heard as well as make money online.
