There has been much discussion across the net about what types of online income streams are best and easiest. When talking about making money blogging we can narrow the most effective income streams into 4 categories.

  1. Make Money Through Affiliate Marketing and Referrals Leads.
  2. Make Money Through Adsense or other PPC programs.
  3. Make Money Through Text Link Ads and other ways of selling ad Space.
  4. Make Money Through Sponsored Reviews/Paid Posting.

These 4 income source categories are legitimate and effective ways to make money blogging. It is my firm belief that you should diversify these income streams with multiple blogs. Instead of trying to have one blog focus on to many income streams I believe it is better that your main income sources are limited to one or two categories per blog.

A quick examples:

Have one or more blogs where the content is focused on bringing up high paying Adsense ads with a few affiliate ads and/or referral links. A blog like this does not necessarily have to be rich in content. This type of blog would be using categories 1 and 2.

Have one or more blogs where the content is rich and link worthy. This type of blog should gain popularity, making advertisers want to buy text links and ad space. This type of blog usually requires more work but can offer an excellent source of income. A blog like this could also include, Adsense referral and affiliate marketing links. Depending on the niche of the blog will determine whether Adsense type ads will also be a good source of income. This type of blog would be mainly using categories 3 and 2.

Have one or more blogs where content is rich and link worthy for the purpose of attracting advertisers to buy sponsored reviews. A review type blog would best fit but is certainly not required. This type of blog should have more than just sponsored reviews as an income source. Sponsored review requests can be few and far between depending on the popularity of your blog. Selling ad space, referral links and using Adsense would fit this type of blog as well. This type of blog would be using all 4 categories but focusing on rich, review type content to attract advertisers.

As you are trying to decide what type of income stream to use for your blog consider using all of them with multiple blogs. Remember to follow the changing web and adapt your income sources accordingly.

I’m feeling a bit bad about my blog now because, with the addition of payperpost just this week, I now have categories 1, 2, and 4 all on one site. Is that bad? I’m working to make my content richer with time since I’m new to the whole blogsphere. What do you think? Should I cut back on one of those categories? *Sigh*

    Hi Tori,
I am so glad you stopped and commented. I think you are off to a great start. Your reasons for blogging for income is almost identical to mine. I guess there are a lot of us in the same boat.
I started out with sponsored reviews but have now taken a different direction and might not do sponsored reviews any more. This is not to say that it’s not the right choice for you. What I would do is keep you current blog as it is. It’s very difficult to get affiliate sales and make money through Adsense on low traffic blogs but it can happen and since you need the money you might as well try it.
I would suggest you keep doing what you are doing on your blog but start planning for a new one. Think of things you are good at or have an interest in. The only topic I wouldn’t suggest is the “make money online” topic because it has been over done. But if you have a skill, talent or are very interested in learning about something that would interest others as well then consider planning for a new venture.
The blog you have now will meet the immediate need of generating income but you want to plan for bigger and better income opportunities. This is done best with focussed niche blogs that meet a need.
Like I said you off to a great start. I started exactly the same way over a year ago and now I am running 4 content rich blogs (will be launching at least 2 more in 2008)that generate an income but also that I am very proud of.
