Tweaking Your Blog For Better Design and Monetization

One of the things I have learned from successful bloggers is that they are not afraid to tweak their blog on a regular basis until they find out what works for them and their readers. I think many bloggers are afraid to make drastic changes because they think their readers might get irritated with the changes and never come back. I suppose some readers may get irritated but sometimes it is worth the risk.

As bloggers we should always be trying to improve our blogs to give our readers a better experience . For example, if your blog design is keeping your readers from reading content easily then that is a legitimate reason to make changes. If you are worried about your readers getting irritated, try including them in the changing process. Ask your readers questions about the changes and encourage them to include their thoughts.

Part of the reason I have include at least one “Reader Input” question a week is to stay in touch with iwebis readers. I have received some great feedback from those questions. Not to mention, learned a few things from my readers.

Many of us bloggers are also hoping to generate an income from our blogs which makes proper ad placement important as well. Tweaking our ad placement and the right income sources until we find just the right spots may take some time.

Once you find the right blog design and ad placements don’t get so comfortable that you forget to make improvements down the road. Remember to be flexible and willing to change with the “changing web”.

Well, to start, you have a great design here. I’ve decided to stop lurking around and post a comment every now and again, of course, when I have something to say. I think the most important traits any blog should have are: a good airy structure and a branded design. While branded design is clear, the “airy” structure is quite important because it provides for a good user experience: the pages are easier to read, look clean and have a professional aspect.

I think each blogger should define his/her style and stick with that. As for changes, if they are needed, they should be done gradually, to keep certain homogeneity in the style and design

You make some good points Mihaela. I do think that it is important to following changing blog design but that does not mean you have to do it often. I have see many blogs that are blogging about web 2.0 while having a very outdated blog design. I am not talking about changing with fads but instead keeping a new fresh look rather than sticking to an outdated one.
Thanks for you input, I really appreciate it ;).
