A couple of days ago I asked you, “Who’s Writing Your Posts?” which encouraged blog authors to let their readers know who is writing by including a name on each post/article. Today I am encouraging blog authors to include a “About the author” page on your blog.
I believe an “About” page is very important in creating a successful blog. A reader should be given the opportunity to get to know the author. The Internet can either be a virtual world where you can feel connected with other people or a world of disconnection and isolation. How a webmaster/blog author presents themselves on their sites will determine how blog readers will react and interact.
Now that Social Networking is apart of everyday life people are going to expect more from websites. A blog, by default, is already more interactive than most websites however the more blogs that are created the harder you will have to work to stand out. What better way to stand out than to let your readers know about you as an individual.
An About page does not have to include the details of your life, where you live or your favorite color. About pages can be a couple of short paragraphs about how you got started blogging, your experiences in the topics you write about and your goals for the blog. More personal information will give your readers more insight but I don’t recommend giving to much detailed information. The About page is also a great place to include a photo of yourself.
So if you have not already included an “About the author” page on your blog, maybe now is the time.
