Now more than ever people are realizing that you can make money blogging. Part of iwebis challenge of following the changing web is to also follow the changes in online income sources. My goals for iwebis are to create a place where people can find useful information about the changing web as well as to generate and income. I have had an income plan for this blog since the planning stages. My research into make money online has brought me to choose the income sources for this blog. I decided I would let my readers in on this plan of action so that you can follow the progress. I will be publishing an income report at the end of every month on my Time To Budget blog starting May 31st.
If your desire is to make money blogging I think it is very important to set goals specifically for the income you wish to generate. There are two types of goals I have set that help me stay focused on my online income desires.
- How much do you plan on making money through your blog?
- How much do you want to work for your pay?
Setting the goal of how much you would like to make gives you a target that you can focus on. I also think it’s just as important to set your pay per hour.
After setting goals of how much money I would like to make with iwebis and how many hours I desire to spend generating that income I can now choose what income sources I plan to use to make money. I have listed the income sources I plan to start with as well as the reasons why I have chosen them and how much I expect to make using them.
- Text Link Ads Text Link Ads are text based ads that are automatically published on your blog after an advertiser purchases a link. The reason I am choosing this income source is because it allows advertisers to find me through a directory and because I am not required to do anything but put a code on my site. Text Link Ads are one of the easiest ways to make money blogging provided your blog meets there requirements. The more popular iwebis becomes the more income potential there is. I believe that iwebis can make $100-$200 a month with text link ads.
- Adsense Ads – Although adsense can easily generate thousands of dollars on high paying keywords this is not true for all keywords. The fact is that many keywords and keyword phrases make very little money. Most keywords that are related to ‘blogging’ are not high paying. However, since there is still money in Adsense I will continue to use it. Although I am uncertain of how much I will make using Adsense, I doubt it will be more than $50 a month.
- Kontera (Content Links) – Kontera ads are another type of income source I hope to be using in the near future. Kontera ads are contextually relevant keywords that is displayed in real-time on your site. A publisher can get paid per click. Not sure how much I will make with Kontera.
- Sponsored Reviews/Paid Posting – Sponsored reviews are purchased by advertisers seeking bloggers that will either review their website or product or will write about posts that are related to the advertisers product or service. There has been much criticism directed toward sponsored reviews/paid posting throughtout 2006 but has still gained popularity. I have learned much about paid posting/sponsored reviews during this time. I believe there is a right way and a wrong way to approach paid posting/sponsored reviews and I will share this with you in an article on this subject very soon. Last year I made about $3,000 (all of which happed through sponsored reviews). Most of my money was made through PayPerPost and Blogitive. I have found that SponsoredReviews and ReviewMe offer more money per sponsored post as well as better offers to review. Please be reassured that iwebis will not become a ’sponsored post focused’ blog and that any reviews I do will be honest reviews with information that is useful to my readers. So I will not be reviewing dating sites or baby bibs on this blog. Any reviews I do will be clearly marked as sponsored reviews and will stay with the topic of this site. I should be able to make $200 - $400 a month through sponsored reviews/paid posting.
These four income sources are going to be my main focus to start. There are other income sources that I will be experimenting with as well.
