Wow! I am so excited about the response to the BlogCatalog Mass Buzz experiment. iwebis is just barely a week old, yes I said a week. I just launched this site last Tuesday (May 1st). iwebis started out with 147 visitors and now it’s very close to 2,000 visitors. iwebis received about 1,000 hits today! I was practically floating with excitement when I visited iwebis a few hours ago and saw 64 comments in response to the article. Not only that I received an email today from Everybody Go To that said iwebis was nominated for 5 most upcoming blogs in the Internet and Technology category (please vote for iwebis). Let me tell you I am overwhelmed with excitement
. I will be posting a iwebis progress report tomorrow. Don’t worry everyone I have a plenty of bandwidth thanks to my great webhost.
I am sure many of you are wondering how I seemed to post a shout-out to all BlogCatalog members at the same time. Though I do view myself as a SuperMom there were no super human powers involved here (with the exception of maybe God’s super power). After I published my BlogCatalog Mass Buzz post this morning I posted a Anyone Else Love BlogCatalog? post in the discussion area. Oscar from BlogCatalog then emailed me to ask if I would like to send out a mass shout-out and of course I said, YES!
Some of the comments on the original post had some good questions that I would like to try and answer with these tips.
Blog Catalog Community Mass Buzz Reminder Options
- Option 1 – Subscribe to iwebis by Email and I will post a reminder Sunday morning. Or you can subscribe to a feed reader if you are planning to visit your feed reader on May 14th.
- Option 2 – Write post ahead of time and set post date and time for the morning of May 14th.
I understand that some people don’t know how to do this so I am made some screenshots to explain. I am only familiar with Wordpress and Blogger.
For Wordpress
In the write post section of your admin area there is a side widget that says Post Timestamp.
If it looks like the picture below then just click on the plus sign.
Edit the date and time and then check mark the ‘Edit timestamp’ by clicking on the box. It will be better if you set the post for early morning hours. When you are finish with your post press the Publish button. You post will not be visible to the world until May 14th.
For Blogger
In your ‘Create Post’ area click on the ‘Post Options’ link.
This link will open up and offer you more posting options including ‘post time and date’. Set the date for May 14th and the time for a morning hour.
- Option 3 – Don’t Forget!!
Other Questions Asked
- Now about the issue of niche blogs that are not related to blogging such as photo blogs. I personally don’t think your readers will have a problem with an ‘Announcement’ type post. Readers are generally understanding when it comes to helping your blog gain popularity.
- Someone asked if we could use a widget or button. I don’t think using widget or button is an good alternative during this experiment because we are trying to promote BlogCatalog with a linking post. For this experiment I will only be including blog posts that have include your thoughts about BlogCatalog.
- To answer the question about why I picked May 14th. It seems that Monday is a very active blogging day and a week seeed just enough time to create a buzz about the buzz
.
- One last question I just receive is can the post be in another language? Yes, just please include the words BlogCatalog in English in your post title.
If anyone has a question or suggestion please feel free to email me.
