Short posts are better and goes to the bottom line first. Then if you can't resist writing long post them I think make a summary on the first part.

Straight to the point. No more than 3 decent sized paragraphs, that's enough. Simply say what you have to say. State it with meaning and passion. I'll get the drift.

I'm not sure if posts can be strictly classified 'long' or 'short.' It depends on the matter. There would be certain elements you MUST cover, in which case, it could become a 'long' post.

A 'long' post is fine, so long as it not a 'dragging' post, and does not meander over to the inconsequential.

A Matter of Presentation

More importantly, it all depends on how the matter is presented. A 'long' post can be made to look shorter with suitable subtitles (as illustrated above in this comment...lol).

Then the reader knows what's coming next, and if the readers don't want to read it, they will take a conscious decision to quit reading, instead of 'going away' feeling just bored.

TIP: If you start feeling the post is getting 'longer', stop writing. And add the rest of what you want to say under "P.S.: Blah, blah.." lol.... people always read the P.S., even if they don't read the post!

Oooops.... to answer your question, I prefer long posts with indicators to detailed information (e.g. URL's to another post on your blog).

P.S.: Of course include interesting images between paras to make the 'long' post look 'short.'

First of all I want to say that I find it very important that bloggers don't try to stretch out little content. If there isn't much to say then keep it short. I have the same experiences as you, I find myself skimming long posts simply because I don't have the time to read every single word. So I guess I'll have to vote for shorter ones.

Thanks for the input. I am more and more interested in short and sweet posts. I am very busy these days and don't have a lot of time to read anymore. I also like images and screenshots.
