Much of the changes to the web is the way in which people are able to make money. No longer is making money online just for the tech savvy or high energy entrepreneur. The regular Joes and Janes have a good chance of making a decent income. Making money online is actually very easy these days but the amount in which you make is another story. It’s easy to spend hours a day making a few dollars but I think most of the world would rather spend less time and make more money.
Most of the world will not get rich quick but many have a chance of making a good income online with a minimal amount of work. Finding the right ways to make money online is key. There are many online income sources that are a waste of time. There are also some that just don’t offer enough money for your time. Yet, there are some income sources that have the potential to make you a lot of money.
There is really no secret to making money online. Most of the information that is offered through e-books and online courses are available to those that know where and how to look. There are many legitimate ways to make money online. There are however only a few intelligent ways to make money online. It is not my desire to offend anyone using less intelligent income sources. But the fact is that if one is really serious about earning more than just pennies a day needs to reevaluate your methods.
I have combed the Internet and found what I believe to be the best ways to make money online. Most of my list may come to no surprise but it’s important that you research these income sources further if you are not using them. It’s also important to use more than one income source in case other sources fail or have slow months (don’t put all your eggs in one basket).
All but one of these income sources are considered passive income. Setting up your site to focus on content while make money while you sleep should is a worthy goal.

Top 5 Legitimate and Intelligent Ways to Make Money Online
1. Affiliate Marketing
You will find that affiliate marketing is probably the most lucrative income source. The problem with affiliate marketing is that most people don’t know how to use this income source affectively. If you are just slapping buttons and banners on your site and are expecting more than the occasional sale then you are sadly mistaken. The exception to this might be those with very high traffic. For the most part those that are making a good living with affiliate marketing are much more intentional and target buyers. Targeting buyers instead of browsers is essential when it comes to effective affiliate marketing.
Though it is true most of the information needed to become successful with affiliate marketing is available for free on the Internet there are some tools that will provide you will more instant information. I have never purchased an e-book before. Most of the information I have learned has been through hours of online research. However I was given an e-book once that opened my eyes to some things I didn’t know about paid searches and affiliate marketing. All of the information provided in this e-book made complete sense and since I had already had some prior knowledge of affiliate marketing I knew the author was right one track. There are actually many websites earning thousands of dollars a month using Adsense. The problem for most web sites and blogs is that they are only earning pennies a day. How does one get from pennies a day to thousands a day? High traffic is the answer. Websites and blogs with high traffic not only get paid per click (CPC) but also can get paid per 1,000 impressions (CPM). Though many people can make a good living with just Adsense I wouldn’t recommend seeking income from just this one source. Not all keywords have high payouts so unless you are have a website that have these high payouts then you will more than likely one make a few cents or maybe dollars a day. As an additional source of income a few dollars a day is a good thing but if you are putting all your effort into only Adsense as an income source then you should rethink things.
There are other companies similar to Google but at this point in time it is best to stick with the leader of the market. I am sure there are those that would disagree with this so if you know of a better company please share it with us.
3. Referrals
There are many sites that offer payment for bringing them referrals. Sometimes they payment is a one time deal and other times it builds with more referrals. In many cases you don’t even have to be involved with the company yourself other than as a referrer. This type of income source is not usually a huge income source but can increase your overall income. A few examples of this type income source would be MyLot and Agloco. There are of course thousands of others sites that offer referral benefits but I will have to list more at another time. My suggestion is that you have some experience with the company even if they don’t require it. It’s better to be a knowledgeable referrer so that you can offer those inquiring and your referrals the right information.
4. Selling Contextual Links and Ad Space
Companies like Text-Link-Ads and Adbrite offer advertisers instant ad placement on the website of there choosing. Selling contextual ads in the sidebar or end of each post is becoming very popular among the blogging community. Many website owners are now able to make a decent living just with these types of ads. Sites like Text-Link-Ads and Adbrite offer advertisers a directory of website that will fit there needs but using these types of companies is not the only way to sell ads space. These companies usually take a fairly large cut of the sold ads space. Text-Link-Ads for examples takes 50%. For most advertisers and publishers this cut is acceptable because they don’t have to deal with each other directly and the ad placement happens almost instantly.
You can however make it possible for advertisers to find available ads space directly. But putting “Your Ad Here” and provided contact information advertisers can choose to contact you directly. Whether you prefer advertisers contacting you or not always offer easy to find contact information on your site. You never know how much advertisers might be willing to pay.
5. Sponsored Reviews (Paid Posting)
Sponsored reviews sometimes called paid posting is another viable income source. Though there is still some controversy around the sponsored review topic I do believe it is here to stay. I have been involved with paid posting for over a year and have made over $3,000 ( most of which happened with in 3 months). I understand the value of sponsored reviews if done correctly. The fact is that most of what I have listed is no secret. The majority of these income sources have been around for years but many people are unsuccessful at making money because they are approaching it wrong. Making money online can be easy if you have the right information and are approaching the income source intelligently. The common thread in the success of any online money making venture is good content. Whether it be a new pair of socks, a diamond ring, an income source, or the latest news about Paris Hilton people want to be able to find the information they are seeking quickly and easy to understand. If you decide to choose affiliate marketing, adsense, referrals, sponsored reviews or all of the above you need to offer a base of good content.

These really are legit ways to make money with the internet. I too would also put affiliate marketing at the top. If most people stuck to those and treated their sites like businesses, they would do very well eventually.
