A few months ago Maki from Dosh Dosh wrote about using DarkRoom text editor so I decided to try it. I love it! I usually use it when I am having a difficult time staying focussed. With so many distractions surrounding us it’s a wonder work can be done. Social media is a blessing in some ways but a curse in others because they suck me in and I don’t know how to leave. Being sucked in the social media “sphere” can and usually means work does not get done.

I have started better morning working hours and during that time I don’t open any social sites and I often use DarkRoom. I have found that the morning hours before the kids are awake is the best time to get work done. If you are having trouble keeping focus while trying to write your latest writing creation you might want to try and write in a DarkRoom.

What makes the DarkRoom so great? It’s a black screen with green text and thats it.

Just so you know I do type faster that what the video shows but there was just too much pressure to type perfect. I actually did this several times before I got this screencast .

Though I have not written much about HerProBlog.COM on this blog I have been working very hard on this project. HerProBlog.COM is the biggest online project I have ever worked on. This project requires a lot of thought and planning. I am working like a mad women to get this site launched!

So far this project has been great and challenging experience. I have been able to learn a great deal more about social media marketing and startup development through this venture. At times it’s a little scary as well as extremely exciting to think about how big this startup could turn out to be. There is not a bit of arrogance when I say that I really believe this site will take off quickly.

Over the past few years I have watched websites go from nothing to very popular. I have not only watched but I have also learned a few tricks a long the way. Some of what I have learned has sparked marketing ideas that have not been fully tapped into. My hope is that I can teach my readers what I have learned through this project as well as the others.

I am still not exactly sure when the site will officially launch but I will be sure to keep you updated. Right now I am working of finishing the site, the email subscription updates and the co-authoring information for potential co-authors.

This time the review will actually be a mini review. Why? Because I am new to Tumblr and have quite made myself at home yet. I will however offer you my opinion on what I have become familiar with. Tumblr is probably considered a full blog platform rather than a micro blog but since it offers a lot of micro blogging options I have added to this review series. Here is my pros and cons list for Tumblr.
Pros

1. Tumblr offers a very easy to setup and use blogging platform.
2. You can follow other Tumblrs on your dashboard. This feature is nice for those that want to follow what other members content.
3. You can reblog content. This feature is difficult for me to get into but I can see how others might feel it is useful.
4. Adding video and pictures is easy enough for beginners to figure out. Actually, it’s just as easy as a click of a button to add content.
5. Tumblr allows full blog posts as well as micro posts.
6. You can design your own theme or find a custom theme to dress up your Tumblelog. There are also several nice free themes available if you look in the right places.
7. You can create groups that can be about what ever topic. I haven’t quite figured out how a group would be useful in this type of setting.

Cons

1. Community. I can’t quite put my figure on it but something is missing from this blog network. All the features for blogging are nice and user friendly but it’s doesn’t offer easy networking. It is easy enough to comment on other Tumblelogs if you know where to find them.
2. There doesn’t appear to be a way to search for other Tumblelogs. I am not sure if this is because I don’t know how or if it’s is because it can not be done. Like is said, I am new to Tumblr.

I don’t find Tumblr all that useful for the Queen of Social Network Marketing Project. The main reason being, it’s lacks much of the networking features I enjoy in other sites. Tumblr is ideal for someone new to blogging and desires a quick and easy way to get one started.
This concludes this series of Social Networks You Can’t Live Without - Micro Blogging Social Networking Sites. A new series will start soon (hopefully) that will offer my opinion on other social media sites such as Digg, YouTube and Facebook as they relate to social network/media marketing.

RideSearch.com is a free Nationwide carpool service that offers a number of useful commuter features. With the way gas prices are today it is important to find as many ways as possible to reduce your expenses. What better way to reduce your expenses than to reduce your gasoline purchases? The price of gasoline is over $3.60 where I live and it just really makes me angry that it has once again reached these outrageous price. Ok, back to the review, I just need to get out some of my frustration on the price of gasoline.

One last rant before I continue. Not only can you save on gasoline if you carpool but you can also help reduce pollution by getting one less vehicle off the roads on a regular basis. RideSearch slogan, “carpooling for better tomorrow”, encourages people to think about how their actions now can impact our future. I think the slogan is great!

RideSearch.com offers are a Carpool Savings Calculator and an online store that carries bumper stickers and T-shirts. They also offer a list of 8 ways you can get involved and help RideSearch make an impact. One way you can spread the news is by downloading a printing RideSearch flyers and passing them out to your friends or posting them on bulletin boards.

After creating your RideSearch account you are prompted to create a profile which includes your name, contact phone numbers and gender. All of this information will be kept confidential. Next, you will fill in the home and work location forms. These forms include where you will need to be picked up and dropped off.

Additional information, such as, work schedule and preferences are also required before a ride share match can be made.

Fortunately I don’t have to commute to work but if I did I would certainly consider searching for a carpooling partner.
